RICHMOND, Va. – As they climb VCU's record books, sophomore Romana Kriskova and junior Janelle Sykes are grabbing handfuls of Atlantic 10 Conference honors along the way. Kriskova and Sykes were named A-10 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, Monday following the Rams' 2-0 weekend.

For Kriskova, it's her fifth Offensive Player of the Week Award this season. Sykes, meanwhile, has bagged three defensive honors this year.
Kriskova continued her assault on VCU's record books last weekend. She averaged 5.00 kills per set and hit .300 as the Rams swept both Rhode Island and Fordham to improve to 22-5 overall and 9-1 in the A-10. Kriskova ranks fourth nationally in kills (4.90) and points (5.69) per set, and her 515 kills this season are just 34 short of tying Ludmila Francescatto for VCU's single-season record. The 6-foot-3 outside hitter from Bratislava, Slovakia also ranks 30th nationally in service aces per set (0.42).
Sykes' breakout junior season marched ahead in VCU's weekend wins. The junior middle averaged 1.67 blocks per set for the Rams on Friday and Saturday and is now averaging 1.35 per set for the season. Sykes ranks 26th in the country in blocks per set and her 142 blocks this season rank sixth in VCU single-season history. She recorded a total of 36 blocks during her first two seasons as a Ram.
VCU looks to maintain its hold on first place in the A-10 when it welcomes La Salle to the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
