TALKING POINTS
  • VCU won the battle up front, outblocking Fordham 14-4 on the way to its 11th victory in 12 matches. Those 14 blocks are the second-most by VCU in a three-set match this season.
  • With the win, VCU remains atop the Atlantic 10 Conference with an 8-1 mark in league play.
  • Sophomore Romana Kriskova led all players with 15 kills and became the third VCU player to record 500 kills in a single season. She hit .310 on the night with 12 digs and contributed to VCU's dominance on the front row with five total blocks, including three solos.
  • Kalah Jones added nine kills and hit .348 for VCU, while Janelle Sykes added five kills on seven swings and recorded four blocks.
  • VCU hit .262 on the night under the direction of setter Kaitlyn LaMantia, who handed out 25 assists and four blocks of her own.
QUOTABLES FROM COACH JODY ROGERS
  • "It was a good match, and we had a team playing catch-up all night. We did it to somebody else instead of them doing it to us all night. We kept them out of system all night, and we served really aggressively."
  • "Janelle Sykes played really well. She had no errors and did a nice job up front.  Kaitlyn LaMantia set a nice offense, and Romana was outstanding again with her 15 kills."
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Kriskova joins Ludmila Francescatto (549) and Jonnie Stone (513) in VCU's 500-kill club for a single season. She needs 50 more to set the program's single-season mark, and if Kriskova maintains her current pace of 4.90 kills per set, she'll need 11 sets to break the record.
  • Sykes moved into eighth place on VCU's single-season blocks list Friday. She now has 136 for the year and trails Melissa Peterson, who recorded 139 blocks in 2006, by three for seventh place. The single-season record of 172 blocks was set last year by Martina Samadan.
