RAMS TOP DAYTON AGAIN, SURGE TO HEAD OF A-10 PACK

  • VCU defeated Dayton for the second time in nine days and maintained its hold on sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10 with a 3-1 win. The Rams have won five straight matches.
  • Sophomore Romana Kriskova drove a VCU offense that hit .321 with 22 kills. She hit .356 in the match and added 15 digs.
  • Redshirt freshman setter Kaitlyn LaMantia handed out a personal-best 51 assists and added three kills for the Rams.
  • VCU outdug Dayton 61-44, and three Rams, Kriskova (15), sophomore Saige Gallop (16) and junior Amanda Love (20) reached double figures.
  • Freshman Nora Reed contributed eight kills, two of the Rams' seven service aces and three blocks. She hit .400
  • VCU was dominant for large stretches of the match against the four-time defending league champions. The Rams hit .414 in the first set on the way to a 25-17 win. In the fourth, VCU hit .485 and committed just one error in a wire-to-wire, 25-13 victory.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • With Sunday's win, the Rams took a full-game lead over Duquesne and Saint Louis in the A-10 standings. VCU finished third in the league last season and was picked fourth in this year's preseason coaches poll.
  • VCU has never been 4-0 in conference play prior to Sunday's win.
  • The Rams' five-match winning streak is a season high. VCU went 3-0 this week behind Kriskova, who averaged 5.60 kills per set and hit .360 over that period.
  • The Rams are now 13-2 at home over the last two seasons.
