KRISKOVA DRIVES RAMS TO VICTORY IN HOME OPENER

TALKING POINTS
  • Sophomore Romana Kriskova blasted 18 kills and hit .433 as VCU rolled to 3-0 win over Hampton in its 2013 home opener.
  • Kriskova led a VCU offense that hit .267 and also contributed nine digs and two aces. She opened the match with eight kills on 13 swings in the first set. She also helped VCU close out the match in the third set with seven kills on 11 attempts.
  • Sophomore Kalah Jones added 10 kills for the Rams, while Uzoamaka Ibeh and Janelle Sykes chipped in six of their own.
  • Sophomore setter Kaitlyn LaMantia came off the bench for VCU and provided 29 assists and four digs.
  • Although it ended in a sweep, Hampton challenged the Rams every step of the way. The match featured 30 ties and nine lead changes in all.
  • In the opening set, the Rams used back-to-back kills by Jones and Kriskova to fight off a plucky Lady Pirates squad and secure a 28-26 win.
  • VCU outdug Hampton 33-19 and fired six service aces to the Lady Pirates' five.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • VCU improved to 25-0 all-time against Hampton, including 12-0 in Richmond. The Rams have swept the last five meetings between the two schools.
  • Kriskova entered the match seventh in the country in kills per set (4.82) and only improved on that mark.
  • Wednesday's contest marked the beginning of a four-match homestand for VCU.
