RICHMOND, Va. – Junior Cecilia Aragao (Recife, Brazil) received her second straight Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week award Monday, days after she led VCU to a pair of dramatic league road victories.

A 5-foot-11 setter, Aragao averaged 10.10 assists, 3.20 digs, 1.30 kills and 0.90 blocks in the Rams' thrilling five set wins at league preseason favorite and defending champion Dayton, as well as at Duquesne. The victories improved VCU to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the A-10.
Aragao handed out 49 assists and provided 20 digs on Friday, as VCU dealt Dayton its first A-10 loss at home since 2008. Dayton had been 67-2 against league opponents the last four seasons overall.
On Sunday, she was credited with 52 assists, six blocks and six kills at Duquesne. The Dukes were tabbed second in the A-10 preseason coaches poll.
Overall, it's Aragao's third A-10 weekly award of the season. Earlier this year, she hauled in a Defensive Player of the Week honor. She also received three All-Tournament citations in non-conference play.
For the season, Aragao is averaging 9.70 assists per set, which ranks third in the league. She is also averaging 2.26 digs, 1.15 blocks and 0.97 kills per set, while hitting a team-best .310.
Aragao and the Rams kick off the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 2 when they host Hampton at 7 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
