SOUTH FLORIDA DEALS VCU FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU hit a season-low .066 in the match, including -.125 in the first set, and committed 18 hitting errors. South Florida, meanwhile, hit .308.
  • The Rams were also plagued by 10 service errors, compared to two aces.
  • USF's Valerie El Houssine led all players with 15 kills and hit .565 in the match.
  • Freshman Martina Samadan led the Rams with six kills and three blocks. She hit .357.
  • Senior Jasmine Waters added three blocks and four kills for VCU.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • VCU suffered its first loss of the season to fall to 4-1. The Rams' 4-0 start had been their best since a 5-0 mark to kick off the 2009 season.
  • The Rams are now 1-1 at the Courtyard Midtown Classic.
  • VCU's Samadan is now hitting .397 in five matches this season.
  • This was the first meeting between VCU and South Florida since 1994. The Bulls lead the all-time series 15-4.
