A s the second semester begins on the VCU campus it also means, things on the spring volleyball circuit are about to heat up. The Rams will look to build chemistry from what was a very young team in 2010.
One key returner for the Rams will be setter Bridget Camacho, who saw a considerable amount of action in only her freshman season. The freshman recently sat down with VCU Athletic Communication Student Assistant Andrew Phillips to see what keeps her busy off of the court.
AP: Why did you decide to come to VCU?
BC: The girls on the team were great! They were all so real, and we had fun together. I also liked the size and diversity of the school, the overall feel was really welcoming, and I really felt like I could make it my second home.
AP: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
BC: I do have some pre game rituals I love to listen to some pump up music with my teammates. It gets me so energized and ready to play. I also have this saying that I write on my wrist before every game. Volleyball is a very mental game and you have to be able to shut everyone out, even yourself sometimes, so that you can play the best you can. This saying reminds me to stay focused and to play for the team because in the end it is what we do together that matters.
AP: What is one quote that inspires you?
BC: My parents gave me a quote at the beginning of this past season, but it's really long. A piece of it is: "Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later, the one who wins is the one who thinks he can." -C. W. Longenecker
AP: If you could play on any other VCU team, which one would it be?
BC: I probably would be on the tennis team because it's a fun game to play and it is similar to volleyball.
AP: What is one thing that most people don't know about you?
BC: I love learning about different cultures around the world and their beliefs, and I love to read about Greek and Egyptian mythology.
AP: Who has been the toughest opponent that you have played against? (team or individual)
BC: Playing against Colorado State, the 14th ranked team in the country, taking them to 5 games on their home court, although we eventually lost, it was a great match. It showed us that we can compete with the best.
AP: Who is your funniest teammate?
BC: Definitely Sam Salvi, she always finds a way to lighten the mood, and she is a huge part of the reason our team has so much fun together.
