NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference released its outdoor track and field All-Academic and All-Rookie teams this afternoon. Five Rams from the VCU Women's Track and Field team earned Atlantic 10 honors for their outstanding work and effort this season.

Junior Taylor McCormick earned All-Academic honors for her victories inside and outside of the classroom this season. The Glen Allen, Virginia native holds a cumulative 4.0 GPA and is majoring in criminal justice while also minoring in business. McCormick earned gold at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, leaping to a mark of 12.27 meters in the triple jump.

McCormick broke the school record in the indoor triple jump earlier this year with a leap of 12.31 meters at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Four freshmen earned A-10 All-Rookie honors, having been the top freshman performers in their respective events.

Makayla McGowan was the top Atlantic 10 freshman in both the discus and shot put. She posted both of her personal bests in the events at the Georgia Tech Invitational in April when she threw the discus to a mark of 45.75 meters and the shot put to a distance of 14.41 meters. McGowan's shot put mark ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10.

Delaney Savedge ended her season on a high note, posting the best freshman time and breaking the school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Savedge's time of 10:54.50 ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10.

Alexis Willis also had a strong showing at the Atlantic 10 Championships, posting a time of 11.98 seconds to place third in the 100-meter dash and first among all freshmen.

Samantha Yankson was the top freshman in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.99 meters. Yankson hit the mark at the William Walton Invitational in April and ended the season at number ten on the A-10 list.
