NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – VCU junior Nichelle Scott was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Academic Team while freshmen Ashley Brown and Kayla Smith were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.

Scott had tremendous success on the track and in the classroom this indoor season, carrying a 3.66 GPA while majoring in chemical engineering and taking home an Atlantic 10 Championship in the 800-meter run on Feb. 19 at the George Mason Field House. Two weeks before winning her first career indoor championship in the 800, Scott ran her way to a new school record in the event at the Villanova Invitational in Staten Island, New York.

Brown had the fastest freshman time in the 1,000-meter run at the A-10 Championship, earning herself a spot on the All-Rookie team. Brown finished fourth in the event with a time of 2:54.33. Brown was also a member of the 4x800-meter relay team who took home the title at the A-10 Championships.

Smith rounded out an excellent indoor season with a victory in the 400-meter run and posting the fastest freshman time in the 200-meter dash at the A-10 Championships. The Ashburn, Virginia native received the honor of A-10 Rookie of the Week on Jan. 31 after breaking the meet record in the 400-meter run at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
