Richmond, Va. – Junior Taylor McCormick was named Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship in Fairfax, Va. this past weekend.

The Glen Allen, Va. native broke a school record in the triple jump on Sunday. McCormick had struggled to break 12 meters in her previous jumps before leaping 12.31 meters on her final jump to come away with the championship in the event.

"Before [the jump] I was very nervous," said McCormick on her feelings leading up to the jump. "After I jumped, I heard my team scream and that made me really happy and excited."

With her winning jump, McCormick started the momentum for VCU as four fellow Rams would go on to win individual titles.

"It feels good," said McCormick on looking back on getting her team going. "One win led to another. De'Nisha [Smith] came up to me and asked me how I did and I told her I came in first and broke the school record and then she went out and won. It was a great feeling."

McCormick and the Rams are off this week and travel to Boston for the ECAC-IC4A Championships in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5.
