Meet: Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships

The Short Story: VCU had 12 athletes advance to the finals of their respective events at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Four Rams scored points for the team.


  • Sakia Konin scored two points for the Rams in the heptathlon, finishing seventh with overall in the event.  Konin hit a personal record in the 800-meter run portion of the event, running a time of 2:33.57.

  • De'Nisha Smith and Khoi Banks advanced to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with Smith placing third and Banks placing seventh in the preliminaries.

  • The Rams had three women qualify for the final of the 400-meter run.  Kayla Smith finished second with a time of 55.27 seconds while Ann Sheehy and Taylor Watkins finished sixth and eighth, respectively.

  • Ashley Greenlee finished fourth in the 500-meter run preliminaries, advancing to the final with a time of 1:15.60.

  • Latrice Morris and Alexis Willis dominated their heats to advance to the final of the 60-meter dash. Morris ran a time of 7.64 seconds while Willis put up a time of 7.66 seconds.  Dajae Goulet also qualified for the final, coming in second in Willis' heat with a time of 7.78 seconds.

  • Nichelle Scott won her heat to advance to the 800-meter run final.  Scott won the heat with a time of 2:13.36.

  • Ashley Brown had the fastest preliminary time in the 1,000-meter run, advancing to the finals with a time of 2:56.23.

  • In the 200-meter run prelims, Kayla Smith and Latrice Morris won their heats to advance to the final with times of 24.98 and 25.13, respectively.

  • The distance medley relay team (Courtney Holleran, Candice James, Judith White, and Emily Dyke) finished seventh with a time of 12:11.44.

  • Ashleigh Banks hit a mark of 16.38 meters in the weight throw to finish fourth in the event while Camora Sanders hit a mark of 15.14 meters, her first time hitting a mark above 15 meters.

  • Khoi Banks finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.59 meters.

VCU will compete in day two of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships tomorrow, Feb. 19.
