DYKE, SMITH RECORD STRONG FINISHES AT ETSU INVITE

The Short Story: The VCU Women wrapped up day two of the ETSU Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14. Senior Emily Dyke finished first in the 3,000-meter run while freshman Ashley Brown had a second-place finish in the mile.


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dyke won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:16.75.
  • Brown complete the mile in 5:09.82, a time that puts her at seventh on the VCU all-time list and in the top 15 fastest mile times in the Atlantic 10.
  • Freshman Kayla Smith won the 200-meter run with a current Atlantic 10 best time of 24.79. The time is also tied for eighth all-time for VCU with Jazlynn Finney.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Kayla Smith, Nichelle Scott, Taylor Watkins, and Ashlee Greenlee won the event in a time of 3:50.56. The time is the tenth-fastest all-time in the event for VCU.
  • Sophomore Latrice Morris and freshman Alexis Willis each finished in the top five of the 60-meter run finals. Morris finished fourth with a personal record time of 7.68 seconds, while Willis finished fifth with a personal record time of 7.69 seconds. Morris' time ties Carina Peter for sixth on the VCU all-time list in the event while Willis' time puts her at seventh all-time.
  • De'Nisha Smith finished fourth in the 400-meter run. 40 minutes after completing the 400-meter run, Smith took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds.

UP NEXT
VCU heads to Blacksburg, Virginia to compete in the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational next Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21.
