MCCORMICK HAS CAREER PERFORMANCE ON DAY ONE OF ETSU INVITE

The Short Story: The first day of the ETSU Invitational was marked by a stellar performance by junior Taylor McCormick in the triple jump and entries into the finals of multiple events to take place on Saturday.


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • McCormick finished first in the triple jump with a current Atlantic 10 best mark of 12.28 meters. The mark is a new personal record for McCormick and moves her to second all-time in the triple jump for VCU behind Chaneka Perry (12.29 meters).
  • Ashleigh Banks set a new personal record in the weight throw with a mark of 15.43 meters, finishing third in the event.
  • Freshman Alexis Willis qualified for the 60-meter run final with a time of 7.78 seconds. The time is currently the second-best Atlantic 10 time for the event.
  • Latrice Morris also qualified for the 60-meter run final with a personal record time of 7.80 seconds.
  • De'Nisha Smith qualified for both 400-meter run and the 60-meter hurdles finals. Smith finished first in the 400-meter preliminaries.
  • Both Nichelle Scott and Ashlee Greenlee placed in the 800-meter run. Scott finished first with a time of 2:14.14 and Greenlee finished second with a time of 2:15.94. The times are currently two of the top seven fastest times in the Atlantic 10 for the event.
  • Freshman Kayla Smith finished first in the 200-meter preliminary with a time of 25.10 seconds. The time is currently the fastest Atlantic 10 time for the event.
