The Short Story: The VCU Women's Track and Field team opened their season at the CNU Holiday Open.  VCU finished third out of seven teams.  De'Nisha Smith won two events while six other Rams took home top-five finishes.


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior De'Nisha Smith stole the show with victories in the 200-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.  Her time of 8.88 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles is tied for the sixth-best time in the event in VCU indoor history.   
  • Junior Taylor McCormick leaped 38' 8" (11.78 meters) in the triple jump.  The mark is the fifth-best VCU indoor mark for the triple jump.  McCormick also holds the fourth-best mark in the triple jump.
  • Sophomore Camora Sanders tossed the weight 48' 9" (14.86 meters) to earn fifth in the weight throw.  The mark ranks tenth all-time for VCU.
  • Freshman Yomna Soliman vaulted a heighted 9' 11" (3.04 meters) in the pole vault, which ranks sixth on the VCU indoor all-time list.
  • Senior Christina Solomon's jump of 5' 3" (1.60 meters) puts her at a tie for tenth all-time in the indoor high jump for VCU.
  • Freshman Kayla Smith and Sophomore Candice James finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 600-meter run.
  • Sophomore Latrice Morris finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.68 seconds.

The Rams are off for a month before returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 when they go to compete in the GMU Father Diamond Invitational in Fairfax, Va.
