JACKSONVILLE, Va. – With her petite frame and beaming smile, junior Kiara Porter doesn't exactly strike fear in her opponents. That all stops once Porter leaves the starting blocks.
Like she has her entire career at VCU, Porter did it once again at the first round of NCAA East Prelims on the campus of the University of North Florida.
The Yorktown, Va. native blistered the track for another school record, breaking her own mark with a time of 52.11, the second fastest qualifying time. She now moves on to the quarterfinals, which is scheduled for Friday at 6:15 p.m.
Porter's time bested her old school record of 52.33, which she set at last year's NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Porter will need to finish in the top-12 of the 18 that race in Friday's quarterfinals to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships.
