RICHMOND, Va. – When you're accomplishing something that has only been achieved by one other person and hasn't happened in 15 years, you're doing something pretty special.
That's exactly what Jaleesa Williams will be doing next week on the campus of the University of North Florida when she competes in the NCAA East Preliminary Round in both the discus and the shot put.
Six-time All-American Maria Elena Calle is the only other Ram in VCU women's track & field history to compete in two different individual events in an NCAA postseason meet. That last happened in 1999, when Williams was in elementary school.
Williams is making her third straight trip to the NCAA postseason, including an All-American postseason last spring.
The Virginia Beach, Va. native enters the NCAA meet ranked 12th in the discus with a distance of 175' 3 ¼" and 47th in the shot put with a toss of 48' 4 ½".
She is the first ever VCU Women's Track & Field field athlete to make three consecutive NCAA postseasons.
Williams will first take on the discus on Friday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m. The shot is set for Saturday, May 31 at 4 p.m.
The top 12 athletes in each event advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 11-14.
