NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Despite earning All-American status last spring, junior Kiara Porter is showing that she's not satisfied.
For the second time in three weeks, Porter was named Atlantic 10 Athlete of the Week after her stellar performance at the Hokie Invitational that featured two victories for the VCU women's track & field squad.
Porter started her weekend with a win in the 300-meter dash on Friday night with a school-record setting time of 37.92. In the victory, she beat Haitian Olympian and former All-American Marlena Wesh.
She returned to the track on Saturday to win the 200-meter in a time of 24.03, missing her personal best by just three-hundredths of a second.
Think she was done? Think again. She laced them up one more time, this time in the 4x400 meter relay and joined Niaimani Aduma, Jazmine Wright, and Nicole Grasty to take third place with a time of 3:48.63, a top-five time at VCU.
Currently, Porter ranks in the top-25 nationally in three different events, the 300-meter (37.92 – 2nd), 500-meter (1:13.54 – 7th) and 200-meter (24.03 – 24th).
