FOURTEEN NEW FACES JOIN WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD SQUAD

RICHMOND, Va. – After having two All-Americans in 2012-13, the VCU women's track & field squad is hard at working trying to accomplish even more in 2013-14.

The Rams are already hard at work aiming for those goals and fourteen new faces have joined them in their efforts.

Head Coach Jon Riley and his staff welcome four sprinters, four distance runners, four jumpers, one thrower and one hurdler.

Let's meet the new faces on the VCU women's track & field squad:

Imoni Anderson, Sprints (Glen Allen High School – Glen Allen, Va.)
Anderson is a quality sprinter with a personal best of 56.64 in the 400m. She will add depth to a strong group of 400m runners.

Ariel Briales, Distance (Princess Anne High School – Virginia Beach, Va.)
Ariel was all-district, all-region, and all state in the 1000, 1600, and 3200.  This past year in indoors Ariel was third in the District Championships and fourth in the Regional Championships. Ariel also competed in the steeplechase an event that she only ran once, in 2012 she was ranked second in the state of Virginia with her sole performance in the event turning a personal best time of 7:42.38.

Qualitra Brown, Sprints (Villanova University – Portsmouth, Va.)
Brown ran the 400-meter leg of the distance medley relay at the BIG EAST Championships and helped Villanova to a runner-up finish. She has a career-best time of 54.89 in the 400 meters, set in the district championships meet. She also holds every school record from the 55-meter dash through the 800 meters, as well as in the long jump.
Erika Coleman, Hurdles (Grassfield High School – Chesapeake, Va.)
Coleman ran a personal best of 46.33 in the 300m hurdles at the Southeastern Districts Outdoor Championships placing 5th. She will run the 400m hurdles for the Rams.
Briana Crawley, Jumps (Leilehua High School – Wahiawa, HI.)
Will compete in both long and triple jump for the Rams.
Emily Dyke, Distance (Manchester High School – Midlothian, Va.)
Specializing the mid-distances, Dyke has a personal best of 3:16.04 in the 1000 meters and 5:32.11 in the 1600 meters. She will be a great addition to the team.
Jessica Ewing, Sprints (College of William & Mary – Virginia Beach, Va.)
Ewing ran a personal best of 55.50 in the 400m and 24.46 in the 200m at the CAA Championships. She was runner-up in the 300m at the 2012 VHSL Indoor State Championships
Iman Lee, Sprints (Chatham High School – Danville, Va.)
Lee finished 4th at the VHSL Group A Outdoor State Championships in the 400m.
Caitlin McNichol, Distance (Loudoun Country High School, Leesburg Va.)
McNichol specializes in longer distances. Caitlin was all-district and all region for her area.
Monique Mitchell-Alexander, Throws (Dominion High School – Sterling, Va.)
Mitchell-Alexander was a discus specialist at Dominion. She was a multiple time district champion in the discus, a regional medalist and a state championship qualifier.
Lindsay Seeley, Distance Powhatan High School – Powhatan, Va.)
Specializing in the longer distances Seeley is newcomer to the sport of track and field. She will be looking to make her mark as a distance runner.
Shakiya Sheppard, Jumps (Lee-Davis High School – Mechanicsville, Va.)
The highlight of Sheppard's season was claiming the New Balance National's emerging elite division title in the girls triple jump with a personal best mark of 38' 3 ½".
Christina Solomon, Jumps (Bishop McNamara High School – Forestville, Md.)
Solomon won high jump at the MD WCAC Outdoor State Championships. She was Ranked #1 in Maryland and #30 US during the 2012-2013 Indoor season.

Jazmen Townsend, Jumps (University of Tennessee – Chesapeake, Va.)
Comes to VCU with a lot of experience on the collegiate level. Townsend will add depth to the jumps squad. She competed at UT the past 3 years and the highlight of her collegiate best jump of 18-2.25 at SEC Outdoor Championships during her sophomore year.
