NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Following another record-breaking performance, VCU Track and Field sophomore Kiara Porter was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Porter set the school record in the 400-meter run and finished second behind only Olympian Shana Cox. The Yorktown, Va. native set a school and personal-best time of 53.43 seconds. Her time was nearly a second faster than the previous school record.
In just Porter's first two seasons with the Rams, she has already set five indoor and outdoor school records (including relays).
Four different VCU athletes have been named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week or Rookie of the Week this season.
VCU returns to action this weekend in both the New Balance Invitational (Feb. 1-2) in Boston, Mass. and the UNC Invitational (Feb. 2).
