GETTING TO KNOW: SENIOR QUINA FORTUNE
RICHMOND, Va. - When Head Coach Jon Riley came to VCU three years ago, senior Quina Fortune joined him transferring in from Belmont. Since then, she's taken down multiple school records and let a resurgence of the VCU women's track program.
The indoor track season is right around the corner and before Fortune and her teammates kicked it into high gear, the New Orleans, La. native sat down with VCU Athletic Communications Student Assistant Nan Turner to give us a little more scoop on herself and some stuff we might not know about her.
NT: What's your favorite thing about VCU?
QF: It is very diverse and in the middle of the city.
NT: When you're not on the track, what do you like to do in your free time?
QF: I like to watch my favorite cartoons, sleep, and hang out with my friends.
NT: If you could play on any other VCU sports team, which one would you choose? Why?
QF: I think I wouldn't play another sport but I would probably be on the dance team. I love to dance and I was a dancer when I was younger
NT: Who has been the most influential person in your life? Why?
QF: My mom because she is a strong black woman that has given me so much, and my older sister for stepping in and taking on a lot of responsibilities when our mom passed away.
NT: What are you most looking forward to this season?
QF: Winning conference and breaking more records.
NT: What's your favorite and least favorite part of a meet day?
QF: My favorite part is when I run faster times, when we win and when I am able to eat because I am done running. My least favorite part is getting up early in the morning to get on the van/bus
NT: What's something people would be surprised to know about you?
QF: I am not as calm as I seem on the outside before I run. I am actually a nervous wreck going over running strategies in my head
NT: If you had to describe yourself in one word what would it be and why?
QF: Clumsy because I trip over my own feet all the time, I run into things and I drop stuff, just not the relay stick.
