RICHMOND, Va. – Both VCU men's and women's tennis have earned the No. 1 seed in their respective Atlantic 10 Tournaments, the league announced Tuesday morning. The women claimed the top seed in the conference tournament for the sixth year in a row.
The women completed the 2018 regular season with a 14-5 record and a 2-0 mark against A-10 opponents, most recently beating cross-town rival Richmond 4-3 on April 18. Freshman Paola Exposito Diaz Delgado leads the Rams with 16 singles wins this year. VCU will start its A-10 Tournament campaign on Thursday, April 26 at 3 p.m. when it faces the winner of No. 8 Fordham and No. 9 Saint Louis.
The men closed the 2018 regular season with a 13-9 record, going a perfect 4-0 in A-10 play. The Rams notched shutout victories against conference foes George Washington (7-0), Saint Louis (4-0), and George Mason (4-0), and came from behind to defeat Dayton 4-3. A pair of Spaniards, sophomore Javier Amantegui and freshman Inigo Torre Martin, lead VCU with 16 singles wins apiece this season. The Rams open their A-10 Tournament on Friday, April 27 at 9 a.m. against the winner of No. 8 George Mason and No. 9 Saint Joseph's.
