RAMS DROP NEUTRAL MATCH TO #39 OKLAHOMA

The short story:
 The Rams fell on the road to Oklahoma, ranked 39th by the ITA, Wednesday evening at the Folkes-Stevens Center in Norfolk, Va. After taking the doubles point, VCU jumped to an early 1-0 lead, but the Sooners rallied back in singles play and would go on to win the match 4-1.

FIRST SERVE

  • Senior Darya Berezhnaya and freshman Noumea Witmus started off strong for the Rams. The pair defeated Simran Sethi and Lily Miyazaki, 6-2. The two are now 6-3 overall in doubles play.
  • Sophomores Janina Braun and Anna Rasmussen continued their strong doubles play. The dynamic duo defeated Oklahoma's Julie Byrne and Malene Stripp, 6-4 to secure the doubles point. Braun and Rasmussen hold an overall record of 14-6 on the doubles court.
  • On the first court Braun battled Lily Miyazaki, ranked 21st by the ITA. After dropping the first set 6-0, she battled back but fell to Miyazaki, 6-0, 6-4. 
  • With the match tied at 1-1, the Sooners recorded three consecutive points to put the match out of reach for the Rams.
