RAMS HEAD TO ATLANTIC 10 TOURNAMENT AS TOP SEED AND DEFENDING CHAMPION

RICHMOND, Va. – While final exams may be right around the corner, the VCU women's tennis team heads to Ohio this weekend with one goal on their minds: defend their title.

VCU swept its way through the tournament in its inaugural season in the Atlantic 10 en route to the program's 14th NCAA Tournament appearance. The Rams enter this year's tournament as the top seed and will open play on Friday at 10 a.m.

Leading the Rams are senior Cindy Chala and sophomore Yukako Noi, who enter this weekend's tournament as two of the country's top 120 players according to the latest ITA rankings.

Chala is 21-7 overall this season and 11-5 in singles play, all coming at the top spot in VCU's lineup. In her two seasons with the Black & Gold, Chala is 36-12 in singles play.  Noi has lost just one singles match since February and is 16-9 this year for the Rams.

In doubles action, senior Daria Yakauleva and Olga Barscheuskaya are 8-1 in the top doubles spot and a team-leading 14 doubles wins this year.
