  • The Short Story: Behind six straight set singles victories, the VCU women's tennis team routed crosstown rival Richmond, 7-0, for its fifth straight victory. Seniors Cindy Chala and Daria Yakauleva led the way with straight set singles wins in two of the top three singles spots, as well as being a part of decisive doubles wins.
How It Happened
  • The tone was set from the beginning of the match as all three of VCU's doubles pairings rolled to 8-1 victories to give the Rams a 1-0 lead in the match.
  • Chala kept it going with a quick 6-1, 6-0 decision over Richmond's Melissa Kandinata to make it 2-0.
  • Sophomore Yukako Noi brought VCU within one point of securing the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win of her own at #2 singles.
  • Freshman Ludivine Burguiere secured that match point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brittany Boys at #5 singles.
  • Yakauleva, Salome Kvitashvili and Olga Terteac wrapped up the sweep with singles victories of their own.
