RAMS DOMINATE PITTSBURGH, 7-0, FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

The Basics

  • The Short Story:  VCU dominated from the opening serve, rolling past Pittsburgh, 7-0, en route to its sixth straight win.  The Rams eased into three doubles victories before quickly making work of the Panthers on the singles court with straight set wins at all six singles positions.

How It Happened

  • Sophomore Salome Kvitashvili (pictured, right) and junior Olga Terteac set the tone for the day with an easy 8-0 win at the third doubles spot, which was followed by two more doubles victories by the Black & Gold to give VCU a 1-0 lead.
  • Kvitashvili kept it going on the singles court with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the fifth spot to start the singles action for the Rams.
  • Sophomore Cindy Chala and freshman Olga Barscheuskaya (pictured, main) followed with 6-2, 6-1 victories of their own to secure the match in favor of the Black & Gold.
  • Yukako Noi, Josefin Hjertquist and Terteac wrapped up the sweep for VCU with singles wins of their own.
