Rams Begin Fall Season at Landfall Invitational

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The VCU Women's Tennis opened up its 2012 fall slate with a trip to the Landfall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
  • Top-seeded in the Fight B Singles bracket, sophomore Salome Kvitashvvi cruised through an undefeated weekend. Kvitashvii defeated Angelico Sidorenko (Charleston Southern) and Lynn Yee Choo (ETSU), on the way to the final. The Tbilisi, Georgia native, went on to beat Alyssa Ritchie (UNCW) 6-2, 6-1 in a consolation match.
  • Karina Alesha also went a perfect 2-0 on the weekend in Flight B. She beat Ikttesh Chahal (WVU) in three sets  in the opening round, and then beat Alyssa Ritchie (UNCW) to advance to the finals.
  • The top-seeded doubles-team of Kvitashvii and Dara Yakuleva also started off on the right foot. The duo took down Alexandra Walters and Yvonne Hubler from Charleston Southern and Audrey Woodland and Hailey Barrett of West Virginia, before falling in the finals to the UNCW number two-seeded doubles team of Angie Sekely and Olga Blank.
