RAMS DEFEAT GEORGIA STATE WITH A 5-2 WIN
RICHMOND, Va. – Men’s basketball wasn’t the only team winning this weekend. Virginia Commonwealth University women’s tennis team knocked off conference foe Georgia State on Saturday with a 5-2 victory.
VCU (16-3) led 3-0 overall in the match when Ana Bara defeated Maryna Kozachenko at the No. 4 singles to clinch the win for the Rams.
The Rams won the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Daria Yakavleva added to the lead by winning in straight sets at the No. 5 spot, overtaking Martina Ondrackova.
Sophomore Josefin Hjertquist won in straight sets at No. 2 singles against Tereza Lerova to increase VCU’s lead to 3-0. It was then that Alex Bara brought home the win for the Rams with her straight set victories at No. 3 singles against Katerina Gresova.
