CHARRON, YERGINA EARN MOST OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS AWARDS
RICHMOND, Va. – Big time players make big time plays in
big time situations.
Senior Thibaut Charron (Sens, France) and junior
Kateryna
Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) of the Virginia Commonwealth
University tennis programs did just that at this year's Colonial
Athletic Association Championships.
For their outstanding achievements, both veterans were named the
Most Outstanding Performers at their respective championships.
Charron, the 2010 CAA Player of the Year, went undefeated in #1
singles play with straight set victories over UNC Wilmington's
Michael Pereira and William & Mary's Keziel Juneau.
For the year, he is 23-6 overall and 19-4 in dual matches.
Yergina served as the closer for the Black & Gold in the
semi-finals and championship matches. In the semis against ODU,
Yergina blew past Irina Dementyeva, 6-2, 6-3 to secure the 4-0 VCU
win and a spot in the championship. She followed that up with a
dramatic 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 over William & Mary's Carmen Pop to
clinch the title for the Rams.
On the year, the junior went 19-6 in singles competition,
including a 17-5 mark in dual matches. She also teamed with senior
Laura Burns
(Hertford, England) at #2 doubles, going 19-3 on the year.
