RICHMOND, Va. – While it is the middle of winter in Richmond, the Virginia Commonwealth University women's tennis team was scolding hot this weekend.

After dropping top-30 ranked Florida International on Friday, the Rams capped it off with a 7-0 manhandling of the Owls of Temple University on Saturday afternoon.

All six Black & Gold singles players captured straight set wins and VCU swept the doubles point, led by sophomore Alex Bara (Oradea, Romania) and senior Olena Leonchuk (Kiev, Ukraine), who dominated at third doubles, 8-2, over Temple's May Johnson and Josephine Bergman.

Leonchuk and classmate Laura Burns (Hertford, England) led the way in singles with 6-1, 6-0 victories at fourth and fifth singles. The veteran duo is now a combined 12-1 in dual matches this spring.

Sophomore Ana Bara (Oradea, Romania) picked up her second consecutive win at first singles with a decisive 6-0, 6-3 over Lucie Pazderova.

The Rams return to action next Saturday in an 11 a.m. showdown with in-state rival Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
