RICHMOND – VCU Women's Soccer goalkeeper Audrey Sanderson started her season off right, as she was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week for her stellar play in VCU's win over Liberty on Sunday.

Sanderson, a redshirt-junior from Nashville, Tenn., turned in a clean sheet in the Rams' official opening game on Sunday, blocking all five shots that she faced, earning the Rams a 2-0 win at Liberty. After a slow first half, Sanderson anchored the Rams defense, holding the Flames scoreless through 90 minutes of play. Going back to the Rams final game of the 2016 season, Sanderson now has turned in two shutouts in a row.

Sanderson was joined by Saint Louis sophomore Evie Lavelle and La Salle senior Kristin Haugstad, who each received Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Saint Louis freshman Olivia Petit was named Rookie of the Week.

The Rams return to action this Thursday night, as they will face Old Dominion at 6 p.m. at Sports Backers Stadium.
