Rams picked third in Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, Johansen named to preseason all-conference squad

RICHMOND, Va—Virginia Commonwealth University's women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Atlantic-10 Conference this upcoming season, according to a vote of the league's head coaches. Senior forward Maren Johansen was honored with a spot on the A-10's preseason all-conference team.

Johansen was one of four forwards to be named to the team. In her three years at VCU she has appeared in 62 games, starting all but five, while tallying 11 goals and 11 assists. Last season, Johansen recorded a career-high five goals, tying her with Courtney Conrad for the team lead.
VCU was picked to finish third behind Dayton and La Salle, respectively, both of whom squared off last year in the A-10 championship game in a game ultimately won by La Salle. Saint Louis and Massachusetts round out the top five. Last season, against the teams currently ranked in the top five, VCU compiled a 1-2-1 record.
The Rams host VMI for an exhibition match this Wednesday, August 13, at 7 PM before travelling to Virginia for another exhibition on August 18. VCU then opens its season at Virginia Tech on August 22 at 7 PM. The match against the Hokies is the first of three road games this season for the Rams, making the August 31 tilt against Clemson the home opener.
