RICHMOND, Va. – With all but one player back from last year's squad, Co-Head Coaches Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and Tim Sahaydak feel pretty good about the immediate future for their Virginia Commonwealth University women's soccer program.
That immediate future now has a schedule set as the duo announced the 2011 fall schedule, which includes nine home contests.
"This group really made strides this spring and we're really excited to see how we can respond to a schedule that possesses a lot of great programs," Roberts Sahaydak said.
VCU will kick off their season with a home date against their cross-town rival, Richmond, at Sports Backers Stadium on August 12 at 7 p.m. After two road games, the Rams return home for their annual VCU Invitational, which will see VCU take on Marshall and Appalachian State.
The Rams will then hit the road for tournaments at William & Mary and St. Mary's (Calif.) before heading into Colonial Athletic Association play. Home dates against George Mason, Georgia State, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, William & Mary and James Madison highlight the conference slate.
Roberts Sahaydak and Sahaydak will look to build upon a 6-9-4 mark last fall, in which seven of those nine losses came by just one goal.
"We really spent a lot of time fine tuning our style of play this spring," Sahaydak said. "At this point, we feel pretty good about the progress we are making and look forward to the fall season starting up."
The duo will be entering their fifth season with the Black & Gold and will be welcoming a new assistant to the staff with the addition of Matt Car to the sidelines.
