RICHMOND, Va. - After narrowly missing out of the CAA Tournament this fall, the VCU women's soccer team returns all but one player from a team that was in literally every game and has the potential to make a run at a conference championship.

One of the several bright spots for the Rams this past fall was freshman Bex Kunz, who was an incredibly versatile player for the Black & Gold. Before Kunz headed into her offseason schedule, she sat down with VCU Athletic Communications Student Assistant Scott Wyant to talk about what she's like off the pitch.

SW: What made you chose to come to VCU?
BK: I chose VCU because of the environment. It is so different than Boise. I love the city feel of Richmond. VCU also had my major which is Psychology.

SW: What is the biggest difference between Boise and Richmond?
BK: Boise doesn't have as much diversity as Richmond and Richmond is an actual city. Boise is very small compared to Richmond.

SW: What was/is the biggest transition being a college freshman?
BK: My biggest transition into being a college freshman was having to become independent, especially being so far away from home.

SW: How did you pick up soccer?
BK: I picked up soccer from my dad because he played when he was younger. He became my coach when I first started out.

SW: What are your hobbies off the field?
BK: I love to swim. I used to race my car (vw gti) in autocross in Boise.

SW: What is the best part of being a student athlete?
BK: Actually knowing more than just you're roommate when you move into the dorms. You get to meet all the other athletes.

SW: Who is the funniest player or coach on the team?
BK: Everyone on our team is very funny. We all make our funny remarks. We're just a very fun team.

SW: What is the best thing to do in Boise, Idaho?
BK: In the summer, I love floating the Boise River or going to Lucky Peak. In the winter, there's Bogus basin for skiing and snowboarding. Idaho is a very outdoorsy state.
SW: Where would you go on your dream vacation?
BK: I would love to go to the Bahamas or Jamaica. Or maybe even backpack around Europe.
SW: What athlete did you look up to growing up?
BK: Well of course me being a soccer player I looked up to Mia Hamm.
SW: Who is your favorite pro team?
BK: My favorite National team is the Spain Men's Soccer team. I'm not really into watching soccer but I like Manchester United.
SW: What is your favorite food?
BK: Since I'm Filipino I love Sinigang. My mom makes it the best.
SW: Sport to play (other than soccer)?
BK: I never did any other sports than soccer. I did track one year in middle school but I didn't like it that much.
