WALTON JOINS VCU LACROSSE, ELLIS PROMOTED

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Lacrosse head coach Jen O'Brien has announced the addition of assistant coach Theresa Walton and the promotion of Dani Ellis to Director of Lacrosse Operations.

Walton joins VCU after recently serving as the assistant coach at the University of Mount Olive.

In Walton's first two years at Mount Olive, the Trojans had an overall record of 27-9. In 2015, Walton helped guide Mount Olive to the Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship as the team was ranked No. 9 in the year-end Nike/LaxMagazine Division II Women's Lacrosse Top 20 Poll, the highest ranking in program history.

"We are excited to welcome Theresa to our Ram Family. She brings a great deal of coaching and recruiting experience to our staff, having most recently served as recruiting coordinator at Mount Olive. Theresa has a great passion for coaching and lacrosse which will greatly benefit our team and the entire athletic department. She truly embodies our program's core values and will no doubt serve as a wonderful mentor for our student-athletes," said O'Brien.

Prior to arriving at Mount Olive, Walton served as an assistant coach at Alma College (Mich.), where she helped the team to a 16-3 mark. Alma posted a record of 7-8 the year prior to Walton's arrival.

Walton earned her bachelor's degree in communications at Canisius College (N.Y.) and helped lead the Griffins to back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse titles, including the first title in school history. Walton earned MAAC All-Tournament honors during Canisius' first title run. She tallied 42 goals and eight assists for 50 points during her career.

Ellis earned a promotion to the position of Director of Lacrosse Operations after serving on the coaching staff last season as a graduate assistant. Ellis helped the Rams improve from a 3-14 mark in its inagural season to a 7-10 record in 2017. The Rams also finished tied for sixth in Atlantic 10 play in 2017 and double their conference win total from the previous season with a 3-6 mark.

"We could not be more pleased to promote Dani to our newly created Director of Lacrosse Operations position. Dani was an integral member of our staff this past year and greatly contributed to our team's success. She fully understands the goals of our program and works tirelessly to help us achieve them. Dani is one of the top young lacrosse minds in the game and we are fortunate to have her on staff again this year," O'Brien Said.

Ellis graduated from Winthrop University in 2016 where she was a member of the inaugural women's lacrosse team. A native of Annapolis, Maryland, Ellis played in 75 career games for the Eagles and scored 75 goals with 85 assists.
