O'BOYLE INKS TWO IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Basketball head coach Beth O'Boyle has announced the signing of Tekayla Tassin and Lauryn Thompson to National Latters of Intent during the NCAA's early signing period. 

Tassin signs with VCU from Byram, Miss. and is a sophomore at Jones County Junior College. She will have two seasons of eligibility at VCU. Thompson hails from Arlington, Texas and plays for Mansfield Timberview High School. 

"We are very excited to have Lauren and KK join our team. KK and Lauryn come from extremely well coached, successful programs and that will translate to what we're doing here at VCU. We believe that both KK and Lauryn will make a big impact on our program as they are talented, dedicated student-athletes both on and off the court," said O'Boyle.

Tassin played in 32 games for Jones County Junior College last season and reached the semi-finals of the NJCAA national tournament. Tassin, a 5-foot-9 combo guard, averaged 10.3 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She was named All-MACJC Honorable Mention and was selected for the 9th annual NJCAA Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend.

In high school, Tassin played at Terry High School where she led her team to the quarterfinals of the MHSAA 6A State Championship. She was listed as a "Senior to Watch" by the Clarion Ledger and she averaged 17.5 points and 11 rebounds. Tassin was named an all-district selection all four years of high school.

"KK is a talented lefty who can makes plays with the ball both at the rim and from deep outside. Her athleticism and length will be a great addition to our high-intensity defense. KK brings a wealth of game experience and high level of basketball IQ," said O'Boyle.

Thompson, a 6-2 forward, averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds last season. She led her team to a 5A Texas State Runner-Up finish during the 2016-17 season while being named to the TABC All-Region Team and a TGCA All-Star Team Selection. Thompson has also been named a two-time First Team 14-5A All-District selection and led her team to two 14-5A District Championships.

"Lauryn is a dynamic and vocal player whose passion and energy are contagious. She plays with a high level of competitiveness and displays great leadership skills. She truly has the ability to dominate both sides of the floor," said O'Boyle.
