RICHMOND, Va. – Former VCU Women's Basketball standouts Isis Thorpe and Keira Robinson have both signed contracts with professional teams in Spain's second division.
Robinson signed a contract with CD Magec TÍas which is located in Tías, Canarias, Spain. Thorpe will begin her professional career with ADBA in the city of Avilés.
"Everyone asked if I was nervous to leave and I'm not. This opportunity will be so exciting and I am blessed to have the chance to continue my career. I know the playing style will be different and I will have to adjust but I know it's nothing VCU hasn't prepared me for. Thank you to all the VCU staff, my coaches, and my wonderful teammates for believing in me and helping me continue to follow my passion," Robinson said.
Robinson scored 1,112 career points and started 123 of the 125 games she appeared in for the Rams. Robinson led the team in scoring in 2016-17 with 11.4 points per game.
Thorpe, VCU's all-time leader in career 3-pointers made with 223, is playing in the same league as Robinson.
"The team has a new coaching staff and team, which means I have a chance to be apart of something that this program has never done. The staff has a whole new approach to the game and they want us to play to our potential," said Thorpe.
Thorpe also scored over 1,000 career points and appeared in 124 career games with 105 starts.
"I feel rejuvenated and I get another chance to make an impact. I am happy now that I can continue working to be the player I know I can be and starting over in a new place and getting a chance to play professional basketball is perfect to reveal my potential," Thorpe said.
