RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Basketball released its challenging 2017-18 non-conference schedule on Thursday.

The Rams schedule is highlighted with participation in two holiday tournaments as well as a road tilt against Minnesota (Nov. 16) and a home contest against Georgetown (Dec. 21). Three of the Rams' opponents also made appearances in the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) last season.

VCU play four games at home, four games at neutral sites and four road games.

"We are excited about our non-conference schedule. In addition to playing our traditional rival, Old Dominion, we have added a number of highly competitive games that will help prepare us for the strength and rigors of the A-10," said head coach Beth O'Boyle.

VCU features a young, talented roster in 2017-18 that includes six newcomers, five of which are freshmen.  The Rams graduated six players off of last year's team.

The Rams open the season by hosting Norfolk State (Nov. 11) before traveling to face Minnesota (Nov. 16). The Rams lost a close 79-69 battle last season against the Gophers in Richmond.

The Rams participate in the Georgia State Thanksgiving Classic and will face GSU (Nov. 24) and Mercer (Nov. 26) at Georgia State.

VCU then travels to face the UNC Wilmington (Nov. 21) who is entering its first season under former Old Dominion coach Karen Barefoot.

VCU returns home to face long-time rival Old Dominion (Dec. 6), a 2017 WNIT participant, who edged the Rams in a 70-60 contest in Norfolk last season, before facing another 2017 WNIT participant in Radford (Dec. 10) on the road.

The Rams then host back-to-back home games against Copping State (Dec. 18) and Georgetown (Dec. 21). VCU dismantled Coppin State in a 73-44 victory to open last season. The Hoyas also were selected to the WNIT last season and the game closes out the home portion of the non-conference schedule.

VCU finishes its non-conference slate by participating in the NJIT Highlanders Christmas Classic. The Rams face Penn (Dec. 28) and play in either the championship game or consolation game on Dec. 29 based upon the outcome of the game against Penn.
