RICHMOND, Va. – After helping VCU to its best start in school history, senior forward Robyn Parks earned her league-leading fourth Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor on Monday.
Parks, who has logged 10 straight 20-point outings, averaged an impressive 26.7 points and 9.0 rebounds in VCU's perfect 3-0 week, including a pair of wins to start conference play. She also shot 59.6 percent (34-of-57) from the field, hit 4-of-9 from 3-point range and helped the Rams extend their school-record winning streak to 13 games en route to their best start ever at 14-1.
The Waldorf, Md. native began the week with 29 points and 11 rebounds against longtime CAA rival Old Dominion before adding 22 and 7 in a 112-54 thrashing of UMass, and 31 and 9 in a come-from-behind victory at Duquesne.
In the latest NCAA statistics released on Jan. 3, Parks ranked 11th in the nation in scoring and fourth in overall points. As a team, VCU ranked among the top 20 in steals (4th), winning percentage (8th), turnover margin (11th), scoring (17th), assists per game (17th) and 3-point field goals per game (18th).
VCU, which already has three more wins than it did all of last season, owns the nation's fourth longest active winning streak. The Rams are also one of only nine schools in the country with at least 14 wins.
The Black and Gold return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 8 when it travels to La Salle for a 7 p.m. tip against the Explorers. VCU returns to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday, Jan. 12 when it hosts defending A-10 champion Saint Joseph's at 5 p.m. The Rams-Hawks matchup will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
