Parks, Robinson Sweep Weekly A-10 Women’s Basketball Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – After picking up its third straight victory, including a pair of road wins in Texas last week, VCU swept the Atlantic 10's weekly women's basketball awards on Monday as senior Robyn Parks earned the league's Player of the Week honor and freshman Keira Robinson was named Rookie of the Week.

The duo helped lead the Rams to a pair of double-digit road victories against Texas-Pan American and UT Arlington en route to a 4-1 start to the season, its best in five years.

Parks, who leads the league in rebounding (11.2 rpg) and ranks fourth in scoring (19.6 ppg), averaged a double-double with 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds, while also contributing 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game.  She had 16 points and 15 boards at UTPA on Thursday before adding 19 points and 14 rebounds against UTA on Sunday.  The Waldorf, Md. native has recorded three straight double-doubles, while scoring at least 11 points in 33 straight games.

Robinson, meanwhile, posted back-to-back career-high scoring performances in the Rams' two wins.  She averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals, 2.5 rebounds and hit 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line.  Robinson scored a then career-high 11 points to go along with six assists and a career-best five steals at UTPA, before following with a new career-high of 17 points with five assists and two steals in an overtime win at UTA.  She also hit a big 3-pointer to cap a quick 5-0 run to start OT, which jumpstarted the Rams' 17-6 outburst during the extra period.

Behind its new-look "Fury" brand in 2013-14, VCU leads the A-10 in steals (12.8 spg), turnovers forced (24.2), turnover margin (+7.8) and 3-point field goals (7.6/gm).  The Rams also rank among the top five in the league in scoring (4th – 78.0 ppg), scoring margin (3rd - +9.0) and assists (4th – 15.2 apg).

VCU continues its season-long five-game road swing with a trip UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, Nov. 27.  Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
