GETTING TO KNOW: FRESHMAN ZAKIA WILLIAMS

The VCU women's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play with a 79-49 victory over in-state rival Radford. The Rams open up conference play with a road game at the College of William and Mary on Sunday January 2nd.

Freshman Zakia Williams has provided the Rams with valuable depth at the point guard position early this season. Williams recently caught up with VCU Athletic Communication Student Assistant Nan Turner to see what keeps her busy off of the court.

NT: What made you decide to come to VCU?
ZW: I decided to come to VCU because I liked the program and I felt like I belonged here. Also because some of my Georgia metro sisters and the rest of the team was very welcoming. I just liked the vibe along with the campus and the city atmosphere.

NT: If you got a free ticket to any event what would you choose?
ZW: A Drake concert or a Tyler Perry play

NT: What is one thing people don't know about you?
ZW: I like to sing, I sing all the time!

NT: What is the biggest transition being a college freshmen
ZW: Learning the ropes, and getting used to playing on the collegiate level

NT: What other sports did you play in high school?
ZW: I played soccer my freshman and Sophomore year, my basketball coach Tony Stanfill thought that playing soccer would also help my basketball skills. I was the goalie :)

NT: What is your favorite part of being a member of the women's basketball team?
ZW: Team bonding, I like to laugh and joke around with my teammates.

NT: What is your favorite thing to do in Richmond?
ZW: I like to chill around campus, everything is so close and convient.

NT: Is there anyone you model your play after?
ZW: No not really, I think I'm one of a kind lol

NT: What is the best thing to do in Columbus?
ZW: Shop at Peach Tree mall, Go to the movies, or catch a local basketball or football game
