HURT NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-CAA SECOND TEAM
ARLINGTON, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University junior
forward Courtney
Hurt (Conyers, Ga.) has been named to the Preseason
All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team in a vote by the
league's head coaches. The award was announced during
Tuesday's CAA Basketball Media Day at Champps-Pentagon Row in
Arlington, Va.
Hurt, who received All-CAA third team honors last season after averaging 13.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per outing, will look to help the Rams in their quest for a fourth straight postseason appearance in 2010-11.
Hurt began her sophomore campaign as a reserve but was a part of Head Coach Beth Cunningham's starting lineup in 20 of the final 21 games, averaging 29.7 minutes per outing. She burst onto the scene with a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds in her first collegiate start on Jan. 10 and never looked back, serving as a legitimate threat in the post for the Rams all year.
The Conyers, Ga., native registered a team-high 10 double-doubles, including three straight to finish the regular season, and scored in double figures in 22 of her final 25 games. Hurt recorded at least one block on 17 occasions with three coming against Richmond, Radford and UNC Wilmington.
Picked to finish fifth in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, VCU opens the 2010-11 season at High Point on Nov. 12 before beginning its home schedule against Winthrop on Nov. 17.
