MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT SPIDER ALUMNI OPEN

Team Scoring: 1-William and Mary 24, 2-Richmond 59, 3-George Mason 62, 4-VCU 87 

The short story: Sophomore Bryce Catlett finished third in the men's 5k, jumping 16 spots from his 19th overall finish a year ago.  He ran an impressive 15:19.5 despite the rainy conditions.  VCU placed fourth overall.

  

THE FINISH LINE

  • Catlett beat his time from last year's Spider Alumni Open by 29 seconds, finishing just 0.3 seconds behind the second place finisher.
  • Junior Michael Villagomaz followed Catlett, placing 17th with a time of 16:25.4.
  • VCU's third-through-seventh finishers, Austin Conway, James de la Rama, Jordan Fountain, and Andrae McGowan placed 20th, 23rd, 24th, and 25th respectively.
  • VCU's top five finishers had an average time of 16:36.08.

 

QUOTABLE

"I'm pretty sure many of them improved on their times from last year for this meet, so it just lets me know that we're going in the right direction as far as the season goes, and just continuing to develop as athletes, so I'm excited.  I'm excited to see what happens at the next meet as we keep progressing."
