The short story: Freshman Bryce Catlett surged again at the JMU Invitational, coming across the line first for the Rams for the second week in a row. Although the Rams ran four runners and were ineligible for team scoring, the Rams as a group finished strong with three runners in the top 20.
THE FINISH LINE
- Bryce Catlett was VCU's top finisher, placing ninth out of 35 competitors in his first collegiate 8k event with a time of 27.15.10.
- Second for the Rams was freshman Brandon Wells, who placed 17th and finished with a time of 28:06.30.
- Bismillah Alidost came in twenty-five seconds behind Wells at 28:31.70, securing 19th and beat his previous JMU Invitational time of 28:35.0.
- Rounding out the VCU contingent was Michael Villagomez, who placed 24th and finished the race in 29:55.70.
"For some of the guys it was their first 8k ever and they did a good job adjusting to that and that will prepare them for upcoming competitions. Bryce Catlett did well again today and if he stays consistent that will help us going forward."
The Rams are off for two weeks before heading to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Oct. 1 to compete in the prestigious Paul Short Run.
