RICHMOND, Va. – Cross country isn't usually in the same subject as urban settings, but Mohamed Adam of the VCU men's cross country team is changing that this fall.

Adam is less than a month into his junior year with the Black & Gold and already has three top-10 finishes on his 2013 resume. His latest effort, a second-place finish at the 55th annual William & Mary Invitational, earned him the title of Virginia Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week.

The native of Kutum, Sudan has sixth, first and second place finishes under his belt this fall. Last week, Adam raced to a victory in the Virginia Union Invitational on Thursday, clocking in at 25:35 for the eight-kilometer course.

Two days later, Adam laced up his running shoes in Williamsburg and blistered the five-kilometer course for a time of 15:36.7, just seven second behind the winner, Jacob Skipper of the University of Richmond.

Adam and his teammates have this weekend off, but return to the course Saturday, Oct. 5 at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
