VCU Athletics is enjoying some of the best success in its near 50 years of history. That success has come both on the playing field and in the classroom. That success does not happen without the hardwork and dedication of our 270-plus student-athletes.

However, there's more than just the classroom and playing field for our student-athletes and that's why every Wednesday will bring you a Getting to Know feature on one of our student-athletes.

This week, we chatted with junior Mohamed Adam of the VCU Track & Field and cross country team. Mohamed earned a spot in last year's NCAA East regionals in cross country and is back to try and take the Rams to new heights this fall.

VCU Center for Sports Leadership Graduate Assistant Zach Reynolds chatted with Mohamed recently.

Here's your chance to Get to Know: Mohamed Adam.

ZR:    How did you decide VCU was the right place for you?

MA: Well, it's close to home, and is also a great medical school, and medicine is an area that I would like to pursue a career in, later on in life.

ZR:  Beyond sports, where do you see yourself in ten years?

MA: I see myself working in a medical field, a dermatologist or an anesthesiologist is what I want to become.

ZR:  What are your goals for the season?

MA: My plans for the seasons are; to run well and keep improving as a runner, run my best times yet, and able to complete at the NCAA Nationals.

ZR:  What is your favorite athletic moment at VCU?

MA: My favorite athletic moment would be VCU Men's Basketball Final Four run.

ZR:  What is one thing many people do not know about you?

MA: One thing most people don't know about me, is that I like Hindi [Sunil Shetty] music, and often listen to it when I'm training/running.

ZR:  If you could be any fictional character, who would it be, and why?

MA: Sherlock Holmes. He is a very clever character, and his ability to analyze things very well, and use his cleverness for the good.

ZR:  Is there a professional athlete, or former player, whose skills you emulate?

MA: Hicham El Guerrouj; one of the greatest Distance/Mid-distance runners I've ever seen compete. He is my role model and inspiration, and I would very much like to see myself compete at his level one day.
