RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University announced its 2011 schedule for the men's and women's cross country programs on Thursday. The Black & Gold's schedule features five regular season meets, the CAA Championship, plus the NCAA Regional, ECAC Championship and NCAA Championship.
"We put together this year's schedule with the intent that our student-athletes would peak just in time for the CAA Championships," said head cross country coach Nicole Cook. "We are looking to improve our position at the CAA Championship and feel this schedule will help in doing so."
The Rams will kickoff the season at the Lou Onesty Open hosted by the University of Virginia on September 9. VCU will close out the month of September with back-to-back meets at the Hagan Stone Park Invitational (Greensboro, N.C. – Sept. 24) and the Paul Short Invitational (Bethlehem, Pa. – Sept. 30).
The month of October features another meet at University of Virginia, this time the Panorama Farms Invitational (Oct. 14). The 2011 CAA Cross Country Championship, set to be hosted by Georgia State University, is scheduled for October 29.
The final regular season meet for the Black and Gold takes place at the Cavalier Invitational on November 4. The month of November also features the NCAA Regional (Louisville, Ky. – Nov. 12), the ECAC Championship (New York City – Nov. 19) and the NCAA Championship (Terre Haute, Ind. – Nov. 21.
