RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Piotr Dybas of the Virginia Commonwealth University men's cross country team is making sure there is nothing left in his tank when he laces up his running shoes for the last time.
The Jaslo, Poland native blistered the course this past weekend and led the Black & Gold to a victory at the Hagan Stone Park Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. For his outstanding efforts, he has been named Colonial Athletic Association Runner of the Week.
"Piotr is an extremely talented and determined runner," Director of Cross Country Nicole Cook said. "He's been an excellent leader by example so far this fall and I can't wait to see what he is able to accomplish during the rest of this season."
Dybas clocked in at a pace of 25:55.30 for the eight-kilometer course, which bested his nearest competitor by over 30 seconds. He was the top runner in what proved to be a top-five sweep by the Rams.
"Our young guys really look to Piotr and our other veterans for guidance and leadership," Cook said. "When we're able to get this type of performance from those guys, it really proves to be a spark for the whole team."
Dybas and the Rams are back in action this Friday when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to participate in the prestigious Paul Short Invitational on Friday.
