FOUR RAMS ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR NCAA EAST PRELIMINARY MEET

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU's Men's Track and Field team is scheduled to travel to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Meet. The Rams will be sending four athletes to the meet, which sets a new program record for the men. The athletes who will be competing are Ian Davis, Emmanuel Waller, Will Schwartz and Drew Hess.

Davis, a native of Montgomery Village, Md., qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet after posting a time of 14.08 in the 110m Hurdles. The junior also scored in five events at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship, including setting a new school record in the 100m Hurdles with a mark of 14.28.

Waller, a freshman out of Lynchburg, Va., capped an outstanding rookie season by running a personal-best 51.63 in the 400m Hurdles to win a conference title. His mark at the A-10 Outdoor Championship is what qualified him for a spot in the 400m Hurdles at the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary Meet. Earlier this season, Waller was named as the Men's Rookie of the Week for winning the 400m Hurdles at the Miami Hurricane Invitational.

Schwartz, a sophomore from Powhatan, Va., rounded out a strong sophomore season by placing second in the Hammer Throw at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship. His 57.95m toss this season was good enough to qualify him for the upcoming NCAA East Preliminary Meet. His qualifying mark also set a new personal best for the Hammer Throw.

Hess, a redshirt junior from Easton, Pa., qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary for the Javelin Throw, recording a toss of 57.95 meters. This season, Hess placed second at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship after setting a new career best, and breaking a school outdoor record in the Javelin. This was the second consecutive season Hess took home second place at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship.

The competition is set to begin on Thursday, May 23, at 12 p.m., and run through Saturday, May 25. For more information on the NCAA East Preliminary, visit https://bit.ly/2VMISDL.
