RAMS BEGIN OUTDOOR SEASON AT COASTAL CAROLINA INVITATIONAL

Meet: Coastal Carolina Invitational (Day one of two)

The Short Story: The Rams kicked off their outdoor season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational after nearly three weeks of rest following the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships. On day one, senior thrower Latasha Williams placed third in the hammer throw and both 4x200m relay teams placed in the top three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Williams led a host of Rams who finished top six in the women's hammer throw. Williams' 46.50m mark lifted her to a third place finish in the event, while junior Denise O'Rourke earned fourth with a personal best 44.61m. Coming in at the sixth spot was sophomore Samantha Yankston.
  • The women's 4x200m relay team claimed first place behind the efforts of Candice James, Taylor Watkins, Kara Lyles, and Kayla Smith. The squad's 1:38.69 was the fastest time the Rams have recorded since the 2014 season.
  • On the men's side, Marcus Finnie, Kahlil Shepard, Devon Thompson, and Kareem Payne made up the third place 4x200m relay team. They completed the relay in 1:27.60.

Next Up 

VCU will compete in the second day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Events are set to begin at 9:30 A.M. with the running of the 3,000m and the men's' discus.
