RICHMOND, Va. – There's a nice little game of "anything you can do, I can do better" going on between VCU track & field's Ryan Coles and Brandon Ruffin.

Last week, Ruffin was named Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week for his efforts in the throws. This week? Coles followed his close friend and teammate by taking home the honor himself with a big weekend at the Legacy Invitational, hosted by Morgan State University.

The New Kent, Va. native highlighted his weekend with a victory in the shot put with a personal best of 57' 6 ½". It was nearly a three-foot improvement on his previous best and moved him into second all-time at VCU in the event. The mark is currently 37th in the NCAA East Region, which should qualify him for the postseason.

He continued his strong weekend by taking third place in the discus with a throw of 164'. It marked the fifth straight meet that Coles had thrown over 160 feet.

He finished his weekend with a third place showing in the hammer throw, unleashing a throw of 159' 6".

VCU will head to the prestigious Penn Relays this week before preparing for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championships in Amherst, Mass. on May 3-4.
